2021 Words and Verses of the Year

Choosing a word of the year has become a very popular trend, one that I have done off and on since 2015. This year, I thought it would be even more impactful to not only choose a word of the year, but to also select a Bible verse that goes hand in hand with my word.

Over on Instagram, I asked people to submit their words of the year so we could pair a Bible verse to give it more purpose and meaning. Is your word of the year on the list?

Overcome

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:1

Grace

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. 2 Corinthians 12:9

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. Ephesians 2:8-9

Rooted

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5

Listen

But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” Luke 11:28

Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger James 1:19

The LORD will fight for you, and you have only jto be silent.” Exodus 14:14

Hope

Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31

Believe

For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe. 1 Timothy 4:10

Now faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen. Hebrews 11:1

And they said, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household.” Acts 16:31

Intentional

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. 1 Corinthians 10:31

Brothers, I do not consider that I have made it my own. But one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and straining forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

Growth

And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. Philippians 1:6

so as to walk in a manner worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing to him: bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God. Colossians 1:10

Embrace

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths. Proverbs 3:5-6

I played that game on facebook where it assigns you a word. Mine was strength. I haven’t looked up a scripture verse to go with it yet. Maybe “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”. If you can think of one that fits me … let me know. Love ya, Sis!!

Love this post and all the different words. I have been picking a word for the year for the last few and it is a really growing practice.
