Good Morning Easter Devotional Day 7 – Restoration of hope eternal
Hello everyone! Good afternoon! It’s Easter! He is risen! We have something big to celebrate today, and I’m ecstatic we get to celebrate it together, even though we might be many miles apart right now.
Let’s talk about resurrection Sunday! So when Mary and the other women arrived at the tomb, followed by Peter, Jesus’ body was gone. Mary thought that someone had removed the body without telling Jesus’ friends or family. Remember that before they even arrived at the tomb, they were already feeling very hopeless. Their savior had died several days beforehand, and I’m sure they were still reeling from the loss. To add that his body had gone missing was another major blow to them.
But then.
Then the angel said, “Why do you seek the living among the dead? He is not here, but has risen. Remember how he told you, while he was in galilee, that the son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men and be crucified and on the third day rise.” Luke 24:5-6
Jesus has risen. He is alive again, he overcame death. Through his resurrection, Jesus restored us to our place in God’s family by defeating sin and death. He took the punishment for our sins, freeing us from the death we deserved.
The ultimate restoration of hope happened on the cross. Once and for all. From now into eternity. God is restoring all and “making everything new.” We know this promise is trustworthy and true because of Jesus and what he has done for us. Jesus is our living hope.
And just like Christ was crucified on the cross, so is our old selves. Just like he lives again, we live with him. Listen to Romans 6:3-10.
Do you not know that all of us who have been baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were buried therefore with him by baptism into death, in order that, just as rChrist was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life. For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. For one who has died has been set free from sin. Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God.
Christ takes our old and washes it new, and that is possible because of the cross. Praise God! This is the good news of the gospel, the great news of the resurrection, of Easter Sunday and it is why we celebrate this day.
