Good Morning Easter Devotional Day 2 – Restored to be Known
Welcome to day two of the Good Morning Easter Devotional! I hope you’re enjoying it like I am! If you’re new here or need to catch up, no worries there is plenty of time! Just visit this post to gain access to the study on the YouVersion bible app.
We’re going to dive head first into the devo today!
It opens with Psalm 139, which is one of my favorite chapters in Psalms. Here’s a snippet from the chapter:
O LORD, you have searched me and known me!
Psalm 139:1-14
You know when I sit down and when I rise up;
you discern my thoughts from afar.
You search out my path and my lying down
and are acquainted with all my ways.
Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know it altogether.
You hem me in, behind and before,
and lay your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
it is high; I cannot attain it.
Where shall I go from your Spirit?
Or where shall I flee from your presence?
If I ascend to heaven, you are there!
If I make my bed in Sheol, you are there!
If I take the wings of the morning
and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
even there your hand shall lead me,
and your right hand shall hold me.
If I say, “Surely the darkness shall cover me,
and the light about me be night,”
even the darkness is not dark to you;
the night is bright as the day,
for darkness is as light with you.
For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.
Amazing! This gives us an image of how God created each of us and how well he knows and loves us. It’s amazing to me that God is here, he is aware of our movements, thoughts and motives. But God doesn’t just know about us; the devo says, “Through Jesus’ sacrifice for our sins, we are known and loved for who more than the sum of our achievements and mistakes. We are known and loved for who we truly are. We’re made in his image, part of God’s family and treasured members of his household.”
Even though sin has separated us, remember not even one page into the entire Bible, Jesus’ life, death and resurrection made a way for us to have direct access to our Creator. And this plan all began right after Adam and Eve sinned. Before God even punished them, he redeemed them! In Genesis 3, right after Adam and Eve ate the forbidden fruit, and they’re playing the blame game on each other and the serpent. Listen to what God says, and pay attention to his words and how he arranges those words.
The LORD God said to the serpent,
Genesis 3:14-16
“Because you have done this,
cursed are you above all livestock
and above all beasts of the field;
on your belly you shall go,
and dust you shall eat
all the days of your life.
I will put enmity between you and the woman,
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”
To the woman he said,
“I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing;
in pain you shall bring forth children.
He says more to Adam and Even, but I really want to focus on verse 15, did you catch that?
I will put enmity between you and the woman,
Genesis 3:15
and between your offspring and her offspring;
he shall bruise your head,
and you shall bruise his heel.”
Before he even turns to Adam and Even, before he hands them their punishment, he redeems them with verse 15, “I will put enmity between you and the woman and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head and you shall bruise his heel.”
God had a plan from the very beginning! And his plan was to restore his creation and make us new through Christ on the cross in death, burial and resurrection.
So let’s chat it out! How could you deepen your relationship with Jesus this week?
Thanks for joining us friends; I’ll see you tomorrow!
